Since 1976, the North Chicago Housing Authority has provided safe and affordable housing to moderate- to low-income families, the disabled, and the elderly in North Chicago, Illinois. When the Kukla Towers first opened, we helped 102 individuals, mostly senior citizens and the disabled, find a home. This began our legacy, which was to not only provide housing for needy families but bring hope to people’s lives. With the growing need for housing in 1986, we opened an additional 50 one-bedroom homes in our community.
As our organization grew, we had a total of 471 housing choice vouchers in 1988. These vouchers were given to families that needed assistance in becoming self-sufficient. In 2008, we partnered with The Veterans Administration and were awarded 35 VASH vouchers. The need was so significant that in 2009, the agency was awarded an additional 35 vouchers, which made the total of 70 VASH vouchers awarded for our organization. We have continued to grow and strive to help people succeed in our community.
